Kids Typing Practice - Practice Makes Perfect

Schools don’t offer a specific subject to allow kids typing practice. Neither do parents often push their kids to practice typing. Typing skills is important not anymore to secretaries but almost everyone

Everything is getting computerised nowadays that even the most menial job may require an input on the computer. Kids have computer classes only as early as high school. The correct age that they should start is at primary school or around the age of 7. 

Many kids are familiar with computer games because it is fun and it is what attracts them to use the computer. Fortunately, there are educational games that are available on websites and at stores to give kids typing practice. 

Educational programs and games provide typing practice for kids in game forms that are by sequence. These games have different level of difficulty to allow a bigger challenge to the kids. Some educational programs comes in tutorials that allow kids typing practice and as a way for them to check their level of proficiency. 

Games provide kids typing practice base on different keyboards they use. Some may choose DVORAK and some may choose QWERTY keyboard. Kids typing practice first teaches the kids the placement of their fingers on the keyboard.

Sometimes educational games are very advance that they even come with a pair of gloves that connects to the computer to aid kids typing practice. 

Next, Kids typing practice involve teaching the right movement of their fingers to allow them to practice on their accuracy of hitting the desired key. Besides that, it creates muscle memory to their fingers to recognise the location of the keys. 

The rule for typing right in kids typing practice is the placement of their fingers where it should be straight and not slant to avoid long term injuries to the fingers. Another trick in kids typing practice is to remind them not to lift their fingers too high from the keys. 

Advance learning for kids typing practice include getting familiar with unusual keys such as the Shift, Tabs and shortcut keys. It sometimes involves speed where they need to complete typing a certain sentence by an amount of time. 

Typing practice for kids is fun although it requires a lot of time. Sometimes it has an negative effect as well for kids with low self-esteem as they might give up easily. 

However, most kids typing games found in educational programs are carefully designed so that kids do not feel like they are at school or doing some serious work or learning. Instead it makes them think it's just a game. 

It is normal if the kids did not grasp typing perfectly immediately. Like any type of learning, we all gradually gets better as time goes by. Like the saying ‘practice makes perfect’, do apply on learning to type for kids.  

Parents and teachers should encourage their kids and pupils because at the end, the skills will play an important role for them in learning more advance skills on the computer.
